Like other official translations of the Egyptian Ministry of Endowments, so far rendered in English, French, and German, this version also contains introductions, in Arabic as well as Russian, by Dr MuhÊammad Sayyid TÊantÊaÎwãÎ, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, and Dr MahÊmuÎd HÊamdãÎ ZaqzuÎq, the Egyptian Minister of Endowments, in eighteen double pages. The translation is prefaced by two seven-page introductions (in Arabic and Spanish) on translation of the Holy QuraÎn, written by Dr MuhÊammad Sayyed TÊantÊaÎwãÎ, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar. 2. The second edition has on every page the Arabic text along with Shakirs English and the late IlaÎhãÎ-QumshehãÎs Persian rendering, set in three columns. MuhÊammad HÊamãÎdullaÎh, this translation has explanatory and exegetical footnotes which draw on such texts as al-TÊabarãÎs Tafs-ir, al-JaÎmi` li AhÊkaÎm al-QuraÎn of al-QurtÊubãÎ, Ibn KathãÎrs Tafs-ir, and al-BukhaÎrãÎs SÊahÊ-ihÊ. According to the writer, the first Muslim translator of the QuraÎn into English was Mawlawi MuhÊammad `AlãÎ of Lahore, whose work appeared in 1921. The author considers MuhÊammad `AlãÎ KuÎshaÎ A Review of Tafs-ir-e NuÎr, an exegetical translation of the QuraÎn by Dr MusÊtÊafaÎ Khurram-Dil The article deals with a critical introduction to the Tafs-ir-e NuÎr, an exegetical translation of the QuraÎn Dr MusÊtÊafaÎ Khurram-Dil. First it speaks briefly about the quality of its printing in the first and the new edition, and then turns to a critical appraisal of it."
