چکیده:
Writers adopt different attitudes towards women. While some
advocate female issues, others oppose women‘s rights. This
article examines the means women use to form their identity and
achieve self-empowerment in Bowles‘s ―Here to Learn‖ and
Strindberg‘s The Father. The article starts with studying the
concept of identity and its main aspects. As for Bowles, it is
found that his traveling affects his writings. Malika, the heroine
in ―Here to Learn‖ is a young girl who escapes her hometown
searching for self-empowerment and identity-construction. Many
incidents happen in her life as she meets various characters. This
takes part in creating her new identity. As for Strindberg, his The
Father is influenced by his personal experiences. Laura, the
heroine, endeavors to build her identity through exerting power
over male characters. She appears more powerful and successful
in achieving her goals. Malika‘s goals are not completely
achieved yet as she is still in the process of change.
