برای نویسندۀ کتاب کودکان،ضرورت دارد که بداند:کودکان چگونه راه میروند؟چطور میبینند و میشنوند؟ چگونه سخن میگویند؟چطور فکر میکنند و میشناسند؟عواطف آنها چگونه شکل میگیرد؟چگونه با دیگرانارتباط برقرار میکنند؟چطور یاد میگیرند و به درک مفاهیم میرسند؟تخیل چگونه و در چه سنی در آنها شکلمیگیرد و بسیاری سؤال دیگری که پاسخ دادن به آنها فقط در حوزۀ روانشناسی رشد میسر است."
