Introduction: Nurses are one of the most essential workforces in the health care system whose performance undoubtedly affects the overall quality of patient care. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of emotion regulation group training on death anxiety and experimental avoidance of nurses. Materials and Methods: The present study was semi-experimental research with pre-test, post-test, and follow-up with the control group. The statistical population consisted of all nurses in Rouhani Hospital of Babol in 2019, among whom 40 nurses who volunteered to participate in the study were randomly assigned to two experimental groups (20 persons) and a control (20 persons). Data were obtained using templer death anxiety questionnaire (1970) and Bund et al. empirical avoidance questionnaire (2007) in a pre-test, post-test and follow-up stages. Emotion regulation group training protocol was performed in 8 sessions (one session per week) for 90 minutes. Data were analyzed using repeated variance analysis and the above statistical analysis was performed using SPSS.22 software. The significance level of the tests was considered 0.05. Results: The results of this study showed that group training of emotion regulation led to a reduction of death anxiety (P>0.001) and experiential avoidance (P>0.001) in nurses. The results also showed that the effect of emotion regulation training lasted until the follow-up phase. Conclusion: It can be concluded that group emotion regulation training is effective on cognitive assessment, death anxiety, experiential avoidance and emotional expression in nurses and it can be used to reduce nurses' psychological problems.
