خلاصة:
Doppelgänger is one of the literary techniques in the works of Julio Cortázar. As a master of imaginative literature, he has dealt with this subject very skillfully and created many collections of stories that are not only appreciated in Latin American literature today, but are also considered among the classic works of world literature. By portraying various types of doppelgängers, which are related to human identity, he presents a different type of imaginative literature. Therefore, what is considered in this research is the presence of the doppelgänger in one of his short stories called "An Island at Noon", in which a flight attendant named Marini passes over the Greek island of Syros in the Aegean Sea on the Tehran-Rome route. During the flight, he notices the island and looks at it from the airplane window. Marini is surprisingly captivated by the island, and from this moment on, this temptation increases in an unstoppable way. While watching the island, he suddenly finds himself in this place, and the story progresses based on this.

The topic of the doppelgänger and the connection of the individual with his “other self” through spatial distances is not only a characteristic of Cortázar’s stories, but another prominent feature in his works is the existence of duality in all its dimensions, and these dualities are not ineffective in the emergence of the doppelgänger.
Therefore, human susceptibility in moments of distraction, the scheme of doubling, the elusive ability of human identity, all allow the characters in Cortázar’s stories to experience two different places, two contradictory lifestyles simultaneously.
At this moment, with a change in perspective, the author tries to show the transgression and deviation of the main character of the narrative, during which Marini, the airplane stewardess, crosses the existing border between the airplane (her first reality) and the island (her second world), which in this case is the airplane window, and can be present on the other side of this border, that is, on the island.
