Aging is characterized by increased apoptosis. It appears that aerobic exercise can reduce apoptosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of aerobic exercise on apoptosis and growth indices in the heart of aged rats. 24 male Wistar rats were divided into two groups: high-intensity aerobic exercise (8 HIT) and moderate-intensity (8 MCT) and a control group (8 CO). Rats performed aerobic exercise for six weeks after a two-week adaptation period. The hearts of the rats were extracted 48 hours after the last training session. The expression of Bax and Bcl-2 genes was analyzed by Real-time-PCR. One-way ANOVA was used to analyze the data with a significance level of P > 0.05. The results showed that the expression levels of the Bax gene in the low-intensity exercise group increased insignificantly (0.261) compared to the control group, but significantly increased in the high-intensity exercise group (0.001). The Bcl-2 gene values in the low-intensity (0.978) and high-intensity (0.278) exercise groups showed an insignificant increase compared to the control group. IGF-1 levels increased in the low-intensity (0.175) and high-intensity (0.537) exercise groups compared to the control group, but it was not significant. According to the results, six weeks of low- and high-intensity exercise leads to an insignificant increase in the expression of Bcl-2 and IGF-1 at both training intensities in elderly rats, as well as a significant increase in Bax in the high-intensity exercise group and an insignificant increase in the low-intensity group.

(2014) in a study on male Wistar rats, after performing a thirteen-week aerobic exercise program on a treadmill six days a week and one hour per session, reported an increase in gene and protein expression of anti-apoptotic factors (2-Bcl) (10).
Therefore, it seems that intense aerobic exercises cause a greater increase in the expression of the 1-IGF gene in the hearts of aged rats compared to low-intensity exercises.
