Marzieh Hadidchi Dabagh is one of the most influential women in contemporary Iran, possessing a unique political life. Commanding the IRGC, representing the Parliament, commanding the Basij, etc., are among her executive positions. This article examines her individual agency and the effect of gendered and political structures on her political-military life. To date, the role and influence of women in the sphere of political power have been examined; however, less attention has been paid to the relationship between agency and the lived space, and the mutual influence of these two on the political life of women. The main question of this article is: What impact did individual agency and living conditions have on the political life of Marzieh Hadidchi Dabagh? How did individual agency allow her to transcend and challenge the assumed private/public duality? What was the role of gender structures in her lived experience, and how did they affect her mindset and lead to contradictory actions and beliefs? Ultimately, the subject of this research is to examine the role and influence of individual agency in challenging living conditions and the resulting mindset, focusing on a case study of the life and complex relationships of Marzieh Hadidchi.
