خلاصة:
Objective: This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of compassion-based therapy on oppositional defiant behavior and self-control in children with substance-dependent parents. Method: The research method employed a semi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest and follow-up, including a control group. The statistical population of the research included all students with substance-dependent parents in Ahvaz city in 2022-2023. Among them, 30 people were selected through the convenience sampling method and randomly assigned to two experimental (n = 15) and control groups (n = 15). The participants in both groups completed the SNAP-IV and self-control rating scales during the pre-test, post-test, and follow-up assessments. The experimental group received eight 90-minute sessions of compassion-based therapy, with a frequency of one session per week. The data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance. Results: The findings showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of oppositional defiant behavior and self-control. Compassion-based therapy reduced oppositional defiant behavior and increased self-control in the experimental group, and these results were sustained during the follow-up phase. Conclusion: Compassion-based therapy, utilizing techniques such as raising awareness of positive and negative experiences, generating positive experiences through mental imagery, teaching compassion, and adjusting behavior through environmental reinforcement, can be an effective intervention to decrease oppositional defiant behavior and enhance self-control in students with substance-dependent parents.

Compassion-focused therapy led to a decrease in oppositional defiant behavior and an increase in self-control in the experimental group, and these results remained in the follow-up stage.
Conclusion: Compassion-focused therapy, by utilizing techniques such as training awareness of positive and negative experiences, creating positive experiences through mental imagery, teaching compassion expression, and modifying behavior through environmental reinforcers, can be used as an effective treatment to reduce oppositional defiant behavior and increase self-control in students with substance-dependent parents.
Given the aforementioned explanations, compassion-based training is applicable in the field of many psychological disorders of children and adolescents and has brought useful results; therefore, considering the topics raised and the research conducted on the impact of compassion-based therapy on improving psychological and behavioral problems, and on the other hand, due to the lack of similar research, the aim of this study was to answer this question: Is compassion-based therapy effective on oppositional defiance and self-control of students with substance-dependent parents?
Since the assumptions of the repeated measures analysis of variance test have been fulfilled; to examine the effectiveness of compassion-based therapy on the oppositional defiance and self-regulation of students with substance-dependent parents, the repeated measures analysis of variance method was used on the post-test scores, the results of which are presented in Tables 3 and 4.
Discussion and Conclusion The aim of the present research was to determine the effectiveness of compassion-based therapy on oppositional defiance and self-regulation of students with substance-dependent parents.
Another finding of the present research showed that compassion-based therapy has an effect on improving self-regulation of 156 students with substance-dependent parents.
