Rural cooperatives are popular institutions that, while possessing the characteristics of an economic unit, also have social values and norms and can represent the collective efforts of cooperative members to achieve common goals and development. Therefore, given the role these cooperative companies can play in the agricultural sector, increasing rural production, providing other services, and consequently, rural development, it is necessary to analyze the economic and social effects and functions resulting from the establishment of these cooperatives on their members in line with rural development. Methodologically, this research is descriptive-survey type, and its data were collected through documentary studies and survey operations (questionnaire). The statistical population included 6,726 members of rural cooperative companies in Gonbad-e Kavus County, of which 210 people were selected as a statistical sample based on Cochran's formula. The research findings show that the establishment of rural cooperative companies has economic effects such as the supply and distribution of goods, supply of production inputs and credit facilities, purchase and marketing of agricultural products, etc., as well as social effects such as improving literacy and awareness levels, human resource development, and creating opportunities for participation among cooperative members. Furthermore, the general results of the research indicate that the establishment of rural cooperative companies has had a positive and significant economic impact on their members, but compared to its economic effects, the social performance and feedback of these cooperatives on their rural members has been weaker and at a lower level.

Analysis of the Socio-Economic Effects of Rural Cooperative Companies From the Perspective of Villagers (Case Study: Gonbad-e Kavus County) Reyhaneh Soltani Moghadas , Mohammad Mirzaali ** Received Date: 2016/12/12 Acceptance Date: 2017/03/04 Abstract Rural cooperatives are community-based entities that, while possessing the characteristics of an economic unit, also hold social values and norms.
Therefore, given the role these cooperative companies can play in the agricultural sectors, increasing rural production, providing other services, and consequently, rural development, it is essential to analyze the economic and social effects and functions resulting from the establishment of these cooperatives on their members in the direction of rural development.
Given that rural cooperatives leave significant effects from various economic and social aspects on their members and the development of the villages under their influence, these grassroots institutions can, by influencing the facilities available to farmers and villagers, increase their production capacity so that they can produce their products with higher efficiency and lower cost, and distribute and sell them at more favorable prices.
Therefore, the main research question is whether rural cooperative companies in the villages of Gonbad-e Kavus County, as socio-economic inputs, have been able to play a positive and significant role in improving the economic and social status of their members?
Regarding studies conducted in Iran; Sedighi and Darvishinia (2002) in their article point out that although rural production cooperatives have provided opportunities for villagers to participate in the process of rural development and solve the professional issues and problems of farmers in economic and social fields through cooperation, despite the need for development and expansion, cooperative companies still do not enjoy a worthy position in the agricultural sector.
