Although the goal of this exhibition was not the historical investigation and evaluation of the art of light, in fact, with the help of examples from its own history, it proved that a specific artistic movement exists that has combined aesthetic and social concerns with up-to-date technology. The exhibition held in 1991 under the name "Artists and Light" in Reims proved this, because many of the works recalled aesthetic and technical issues that had previously emerged in the fields of photography, light, environmental art, and spectator-oriented art, while simultaneously participating in the transformations of these fields. At that time, electromechanical, electronic, 5 thermal, hydraulic, and magnetic movements appeared in the works of these artists (refer to page image), which were sometimes also combined with light effects produced by arc lamps, floodlights, various types of projectors, lamps containing sodium or mercury vapor (white or colored), neon or fluorescent tubes, straight or bent. Although these various uses of neon technology pursued different goals, such as creating a luminous script or dynamic light effects, manipulating interior and exterior spaces, or modifying existing architecture, it can be said that despite the specific technique or technology used, all these works share a common aesthetic characteristic that covers a wide range, from an invitation to reflection and mediation for awareness of energy to the passion and vitality of contemporary life.
