Although scientific-research journals play a major role in scientific communication among researchers and scholars, the emergence and expansion of the internet and the added values provided by the World Wide Web have challenged this role. Electronic archives of articles in press are among the tools that, despite some strengths and weaknesses, are gradually establishing their position in this process. In this article, while providing a conceptual introduction to such archives, their advantages and disadvantages are discussed, and some of the most important types are introduced. Additionally, the significant role these archives play in establishing scientific communication between the Global South and North is stated, and finally, some considerations regarding the creation and use of these archives in Iran are addressed.

This has manifested in electronic journals and other web-based products, including archives of articles in press5, and has led to a continuum of interactive, interdisciplinary, and collaborative works; * Rapid progress in most scientific fields means that the working time of the traditional publishing model hinders the rapid dissemination of research results and development; * The complete transfer of intellectual property rights from the author to the publisher, which is common in the traditional publishing model, is not proportionate to the widespread promotion and dissemination of results and the acquisition of knowledge by peers and recognition among them; * The current peer-review method of journals, as an essential feature of the scientific critique process, is in conflict with the presentation of new ideas because it is inflexible, remains stuck in the present, often supports the publication of articles by well-known and famous authors, and is accompanied by unacceptable delays; and * There is a massive discrepancy between the increasing subscription prices of journals and library budgets (3:231-241).
According to her study, authors who submit articles to chemistry preprint archives45 consider it a convenient means for disseminating their research findings and for receiving feedback before submission to peer-reviewed journals.
