43 Beyhaq, another center for the teaching of the Zaydi faith in Iran, was beyond the provinces of the Caspian Sea. According to the writings of Ibn Funduq, the head of Beyhaq, Abu al-Qasim Ali son of Muhammad son of Husayn, built four schools there some time before Jumada al-Awwal in the year 414 for four branches, namely the Hanafis, Shafi'is, Karramis, and the Sayyids and their followers, the Mu'tazilites and Zaydis.
Among the Zaydi Imams on the shores of the Caspian Sea, after Nasir, their most prominent scholars were two scholarly brothers from the Bat-hani family named Ahmad son of Husayn Mu'ayyad bi-llah (died 411) and Abu Talib Yahya Natiq bi-l-Haqq, both of whom at one time were affiliated with the assembly of the Buyid minister Sahib ibn Abbad and his Mu'tazilite Qadi al-Qudat, Abd al-Jabbar al-Hamadani in Ray. 37 Both brothers were born in Amol to a father who followed the Imami faith, and under the influence of their teacher Abu al-Abbas al-Hasani, who was one of the great representatives of the school of al-Hadi in Tabaristan, they converted to the Zaydi faith.
This was especially due to the efforts of the minister of the Buyid dynasty, Sahib ibn Abbad, who made the greatest Mu'tazili scholar of that time, Abd al-Jabbar al-Hamadani, the Qadi al-Qudat of Rey32 and, according to al-Muqaddasi, sent Mu'tazili preachers among the Hanafi groups of the region.
33 Although Qadi Abd al-Jabbar himself followed the Shafi'i school, his influence as a teacher among the Hanafis, Imami Shiites, and Zaydis, who also enjoyed the support of Sahib ibn Abbad, was very great.
