Abstract:
Social capital refers to the deep and mutual bonds of a group resulting from interaction and social relations, which includes trust, cohesion, participation, support, and social belonging. The main purpose of this study was to study the relationship between the components of social capital and delinquency. The research method was quantitative meta-analysis. The sample was comprised of 14 documents published from 2008 to 2021 and selected through deliberate snowball sampling method, observing the entry and exit criteria. The results showed that according to Cohen and Fisher's effect size, social capital had a negative significant relationship with social delinquency and was able to explain -37% of it. In addition, the components of social capital (social cohesion = -31 %; social trust = -33%; social belonging = -37%; religious belonging = -39%, and social support = -35 %) had a negative significant effect on the tendency towards social delinquency. Overall, the study indicated that social capital is an informal form of collective control, which reduces delinquent and criminal behavior by creating social order, strengthening social belonging, increasing interaction and social bonds, and creating an umbrella of supervision and collective commitment to social-moral norms.
