Notes from the Editor-in-Chief We are delighted by the publication of the third issue of the Journal of Applied Linguistics, with a deep gratitude for the contributions our colleagues made to the enrichment of the journal, and with an acknowledgment of our debt to all those who have been of assistance, encouragement and support.
The publication of the third issue is particularly significant for the future life of our journal in that, as a general rule, after the publication of the third issue the journal will be in a position to be assessed by the higher committee for the assessment of published academic/ scholarly materials, and every one of us is pretty hopeful about the verdict to be given on the status of the journal.
This issue encompasses a variety of topics such as psycholinguistic aspects of language education, designing syllabus for ESP, discourse and genre analysis, aspects of writing and reading pedagogy, as well as development of oral performance.
Our preference for diversity of research topics derives from our diverse teaching contexts, from public schools to private institutes and colleges.
Accordingly, our editors prefer the contributors to observe the principle of diversity not only in topic areas but also in their selected or devised methodologies, i.
e. they are encouraged to follow the diverse modes of representing their research findings.
This observation seems to be necessary for a modern journal if it intends to keep up with the newly emerging needs which require scholarly practices.
