This study aimed at comparing the cognitively biased emotional information processing in anxious, depressed and
normal people. The study was a causal-comparative study and 50 anxious individuals, 50 depressed individuals and 50
normal individuals were selected from the students of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences as the sample of the
study. To collect the data, anxiety scales, Beck Depression scale, psychological symptoms scale, structured clinical
interviews, sign recall test and root words test were used and then the data were analyzed by multivariate analysis of
variance. The results showed that in explicit and implicit memory of these three anxious, depressed and normal
groups, there was a significant difference in terms of positive, negative, and threatening words. Furthermore, the
anxious group, depressed group and normal group had higher score in threatenig words, negative words and positive
words respectively. But there was no significant difference between these three groups in terms of neutral words.
Therefore, it can be concluded that the information processing in explicit and implicit memory creates bias and that it
results in recalling the information which is consonant to the mood.
