It is believed that work-related musculoskeletal disorders are one of the
biggest ergonomic problems in the developed and developing countries. This
problem occurs due to destruction and collective damage of musculoskeletal
tissue during months and years of exposure to stressful biomechanical and
socio-psychological factors within working environment. As one of the most
important factors in the occurrence of these disorders is the unfavorable
body posture while working, therefore in this study we investigated the
prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders in the last 12 months among office
female employees in the University of Tehran. Hence, in this study we
evaluate the relationship between the RULA scores with musculoskeletal
disorders among subjects. In this study we used the RULA worksheet and
Nordic questionnaire (NMQ; Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire) to
collect the data. Results indicated that back, neck and shoulder pain was the
most frequent disorder with the rate of %79.9, %77.8 and %73/3 among the
subjects respectively. Hence, Person Product Moment (PPM), revealed that
there was a meaningful relationship between the RULA scores and
musculoskeletal disorders (r=0.739, P=0.001, R’= 0.55) among the subjects.
From this study it can be concluded that the majority of the subjects were in
danger of work related musculoskeletal disorders and it raise the attention of
ergonomic changes in their workplace and using exercise as a preventive
variable to manage the above mentioned problem.
