Aim: Football is one of the most popular sports in the world. However, the risk of injury in this sport is high. Identification of risk factors is essential to prevent injury. Many researchers have identified muscle strength as one of the most important internal risk factors, but few studies have examined the relationship between the isometric strength of lower extremity muscles with injuries incidence. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examines the relationship between isometric strength of lower extremity muscles and the incidence of injuryin football players. Methodology: The sample of this study was 73 soccer players U_21. Before the beginning of the season, the isometric strength of the hip abductor and adductor, knee flexor and extensor, ankle evertore and invertor and ankle plantar flexor and dorsi flexor muscles of dominat leg of each soccer players were measured by Isokinetic device (Biodex system 4), then each player was followed up for 8 months and player injuries and practice and matches exposure time were recorded prospectively by medical staff. Result: The results showed that there is no significant relationship between isometric strength of lower extremity muscles and injury incidence rare (P>0.05). Conclusions: According result of this study, lower extrimity isometric strength cannot predict sport injuries in football players, thus it is recommended medical and technical staff of football players use isokinetic and isotonic strength for identify high risk players.
