The present research aims to study the linguistic identity of migrant Lak tribe residing in Namjoo (Gorgan) Neighborhood of Tehran. a qualitative approach, snowball sampling, semi-structured and deep interviews with 23 people and observation were used for data collection. The findings showed that based on the factors of gender and generation, there was difference among the residents in terms of language-mediated identity building. The second generation of women's mastery of Lak language was a little better than men's, but they showed more inclination toward replicating their own language so as to be similar to the standard language than men did. The first generation's skill at understanding and speaking Lak language was higher than men's and contrary to the second generation, they showed resistance against homogenizing conditions by using it when speaking to Lak speakers in public and private environments. However due to a different lived experience, the second generation showed more flexibility in their use of mother tongue. A comprehensive writing along with the efficiency, value and social proof accompanied by the use of Persian language can facilitate its acceptance. Lak language is threatened not only by migrants in the host society but also due to lacking a writing system.
