The article presents An Applied Psycholinguistic Study
of the effect of teaching a foreign language on teaching and
learning Arabic in childhood.
The article utilizes two approaches:
The first approach is psycholinguistic: where it studies
the acquisition of the first language (mother tongue) and
its biological innate basis. This study depends on Chomsky’s
theory of Nativism, in addition to other notions on the
operational mechanism of the bilingual mind and its role in
linguistic communication.
The second approach is sociolinguistic: where it examines
the social conditions of first language acquisition and the
different factors of intervention of this process, mainly
bilingualism, which includes lexical alternation and bilingual
communications strategies.
The article concludes with the identification and perception
of actual real-life effects of second language learning on
Arabic in children.
