Department of Physical Education and Sport Science, Tabriz University, Tabriz, Iran INTRODUCTION Information obtained from muscle EMG may help us to evaluate muscle activity, effectiveness of a specific rehabilitation program, as well as for understanding the injury mechanism(3). The objective of this study was to assess the EMG activity of vastus medialis and rectus femoris muscles during their concentric and eccentric contractions. EMG activity of vastuslateralis and rectus femuris muscles were digitized during squat performance with a load equal to 45% of body mass. The intensity of muscle activity was shown in two phases sitting (eccentric contraction) and standing (concentric contraction) in squat exercise. CONCLUSIONS The activity of vastus medialis in standing phase was significantly greater than that of the rectus femoris muscle(1,4)."

INTRODUCTION‌

Information obtained from muscle EMG may help us to evaluate muscle activity, effectiveness‌ of‌

a specific rehabilitation program, as well‌ as‌ for understanding‌ the‌ injury‌ mechanism(3). Squat exercise is widely used‌ in‌ daily training program, and in rehabilitations. The objective of this study was‌ to‌ assess the EMG activity of vastus‌ medialis and rectus femoris‌ muscles‌ during their concentric and eccentric‌ contractions‌.

METHOD

Thirteen female athletes (21.5±2.3 years; 162.34±3.44 height, 56.11±5.48‌ weight‌ and 21.82±2.27 body‌

mass‌ index‌) participated voluntarily in‌ this‌ study. EMG activity of‌ vastuslateralis‌ and rectus femuris muscles were digitized during squat performance with a load equal to 45‌% of‌ body mass.
