AbstractInterdisciplinary studies and psychoanalytic criticism have recently opened new horizons for researchers. Thousands of Nights have been evaluated in various ways so far, but what has been overlooked is the psychoanalysis of the stories. The context of the tale of "Shahriar and his brother Shahzaman" illustrates a unique problem of civilization, whose examination can provide the audience with foresight vision in relevant concepts. Although Freud's, father of psychoanalysis, had read the works of poets and writers, including illusory and extravagant stories and he knew theorigin of his inspiration and theirs in two different ways (Shariat Kashani, 2014: 13), nowadays, in Our literature, psychoanalytic criticism, as it deserves, does not have a prominent presence or is heavily criticized by those who do not support theorists such as Freud, Lacan, and others. The analytical abilities of psychoanalysis and its aptitude for commentary led us to discover the fundamental anecdote of the Thousand Nights according to Lacan's theories. Lacan's theories, with all their difficulty to understand, contain neither the misunderstanding of Freud's concepts nor the superiority of Jung's realistic and mystical psychology. This paper looks at the origins of Shahriar and his brother Shahzaman's story from this perspective.
