A poetry that the poet writes in prison, Habsiyyeh is a kind in which the poet turns his experience of confinement and torture into artistic experiences; However the type of prison representation in Habsiyyeh is not the same in the pre-modern and modern Habsiyyeh-poets’ poetry. The pre-modern Habsiyyeh-poet is more fatalist and considers the current situation as destined. Therefore, he summarizes his agency in describing these situations. Although Habsiyyeh of any kind is part of the protest literature, it is only in contemporary poetry that Habsiyyeh is associated with the political man. The concept of prison in contemporary poetry has been revealed in a different way with discourse implications and discourse disjunctions. With the formation of the national state and the birth of prison in the modern world, the concept of prison changes from a religious and individual matter to a political one. The history of the evolution of the prison institution in the modern state is related to the discourse building of the concept of prison in contemporary poetry. The most important research hypothesis of this article is that the historical emergence of the political subject has led to the appearance of prison aesthetics. Therefore, this article has followed two issues with a genealogical approach: The historical connection between the developments of the prison institution in modern Iran and the representation of prison ideas and metaphors in Shamlu's poetry as an example of dissident poet. As the prison institution has become more widespread and complex in modern states,
