خلاصة:
Tasnim” by Allameh Javadi Amoli and “al-Manar” by Rashid Riza are two seminal exegeses of the Qur’an in Shi’ism and Sunnism respectively. These two exegetical books originate from two different intellectual and ideological sources though they have rather common methods and styles due to considerable overlap between the above books. However, al-Manar’s interpretation of the circumstances of revelation and evidences related to the verse of al-Mubahalah are criticized by Allameh Javadi in his book, Tasnim. The authors in this study aim to analytically examine the methodological approach of the above commentators on the aforementioned verse. The results of the study show that al-Manar has adopted a biased and partial approach to the event of al- Mubahalah and has vividly distanced from Sunni commentators, narrators, historians, and even Sahiban-i Sahhah to prioritize the ideas of ibn Taymiah over those of other Sunni characters. Therefore, Allameh Javadi Amoli basically rejects the ideas and methods of Rashid Riza in this regard as well as his inappropriate tendencies and prejudice.
ملخص الجهاز:
The findings of this research indicate that Al-Manar acted partially and with prejudice regarding the subject of Mubahala, visibly distancing itself from Sunni commentators, traditionists, and historians, and even from the owners of the Sahih collections, preferring the views of Ibn Taymiyyah over other Sunni scholarly figures; based on this, we see that Ayatollah Javadi has rejected the very foundation of Rashid Rida's words and, in addition to invalidating his thought and method, has also pointed out his incorrect tendencies and prejudices.
In the methodological analysis of Ayatollah Javadi Amoli's critiques of Tafsir al-Manar, the following points are worth mentioning: 1- If proving a virtue, even if it is an exclusive virtue, or if that virtue provides the requirements for superiority and creates a basis for determining the instance of a successor, or even higher, determining the Caliphate and Imamate, seems natural, then the discussion of that virtue would lead to the commitment of Shiite commentators to its proof and fanatic Sunni commentators to its denial or limiting it to mere virtue; this means that they either fundamentally, like Al-Manar, have not accepted the exclusivity of these verses to the Ahl al-Bayt(as), or like other Sunnis, they have considered the verses in question to be limited to virtue or at most superiority, and have not gone beyond this, let alone having proven the Caliphate and Imamate.
3. Ayatollah Javadi Amoli's critique of Al-Manar regarding the applications of "abna'ana" Another doubt mentioned in Tafsir Al-Manar regarding the Mubahala event is that Rashid Rida did not consider the intended meaning of "nad'u abna'ana" to be specific individuals such as Imam Hasan(as) and Imam Husayn(as), and to prove his claim, he cites a narration from Ibn Asakir, saying: «أخرَجَ ابنُ عَسَاكِرُ عَن جَعفَر بنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَن أبِيهِ «فَقُلْ تَعالَوْا نَدْعُ أَبْناءَنا....
