Visual and auditory media were born in the lap of narration, and wherever they have utilized narrative elements with greater power, they have gained more popularity among the audience. Referring to the ancient roots of narration, whose examples can be found in myths and ancient tales, provides a double richness to the narrative and visual dimension of the media and often, due to the reference to cultural heritage and the audience's familiarity with the atmosphere of the stories, brings about their satisfaction. Historical stories, within a specific time frame, depict fictional or real events and occurrences in a historical context, centered around a real character. In this regard, the stories of Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi, which are often narrated in connection with his slave, Ayaz, hold an excellent position and are considered among the most prominent historical stories in oral literature. The allegorical aspect of this category of narratives—historical events and the character of Ayaz, who has become acceptable and beloved by the Sultan due to his outstanding qualities such as abundant intelligence, loyalty, and honesty—has provided a suitable platform for dramatic adaptations and has the capacity to be presented in the field of theater in the role of a child hero. In this article, which has been composed using documentary (library-based) and descriptive-analytical methods, among 137 existing historical stories in the treasure of folk culture, 3 narratives that contain the most common narrative indicators have been examined based on dramatic elements, and their display capabilities have been evaluated for visual and auditory adaptations. The findings of this research and investigation apply to all the stories studied in this regard and do not only include the mentioned narratives.

Introduction Historical stories constitute an important part of oral literature, and the narrator presents a slice of the lives of sultans, ministers, scientists and sages, poets and writers, within a halo of history and myth, truth and unreality, and often, with the aim of providing lessons for the audience, their didactic aspect is prominent.
(See: Hanif, 1384; Zolfaghari and Omidi, 1391: 318) In this writing, for the purpose of obtaining the dramatic potential of historical stories, in which Sultan Mahmud and his slave Ayaz are at the center of events; components of this kind have been examined.
