"پس از فراز و نشیبهای بسیاری که دین اسلام در این سرزمین از سرگذراند، سرانجام منطقۀ نفوذ این دین، در قارۀ آفریقا «کانو» (kano) در شمال نیجریه را به «کازابلانکا» (در مغرب مراکش) و تونس را به دارالسلام (پایتخت فعلی کشور تانزانیا) متصل نمود و زبان عربی نه تنها در کشورهای آفریقای سفید، بلکه در کشورهای آفریقای سیاه مانند سودان و سومالی نیز معمول گردید و از سویی دیگر، اسلام چون مخالف تقسیمبندی انسان به سیاه و سفید (وجود تبعیض) بود، توانست در افکار بومیان آفریقا نفوذ کند و توجه آنها را به خود جلب و آنها را در مبارزه برای آزادی و استقلال هدایت نماید؛ بنابراین اسلام با همین نگاه و رویکرد در دگرگونی فکری مردم آفریقای شرقی و غربی تأثیر فراونی داشته و پیوسته حامی سیاهان بومی فقیر و مظلوم و مشوق اصلی آنها برای کسب استقلال و آزادی بوده است."
