The attitude of Mulla Sadra, the unrivalled Philosopher of 11th Century toward
philosophy differs somewhat with other viewpoints. He thinks that Philosophy and
Wisdom is the ladder of progress and promotion of humanity, jumping point toward
God and in one sentence it is the preliminary stage for human being's resemblance to
his Creator. (Mulla Sadra, 1410, vol. 1, p20).
Such view that indicates his firm beliefs, has been put in the form of "Four
Mystical Journeys" with rational foundations and principles and introduced under
the name "Transcendent Theosophy or Transcendent Wisdom". While he thinks its
glory and splendor to be profoundly indebted to the harmony and congruency with
Quran and Tradition, he curses a philosophy whose rules and principles are not
compatible with the Holy Quran and Tradition. (ibid, vol. 8, p.303); So, it became a
transcendent philosophical school in the Islamic World and beyond. The role of
religious sources in in "Transcendent Theosophy" is definitely and certainly not less
if not more than in Mysticism, Theology, and Peripatetic and Illuminationist
Philosophical schools. For according to contemporary researchers a lot of important
and basic issues of "Transcendent Theosophy " are inspired and borrowed from
Quran and Hadiths and a lot of other issues are treated in the light of Qurānic Verses
and Hadiths as the supporting evidence.
The author holds the genuine sources of Quran and Tradition to be of crucial role
in development and growth of "Transcendent Theosophy". The important issues like
fundamental reality of existence, principle of causality, substantial motion and
promotion, and debates of the metaphysics in its narrow sense( namely, theological
section of philosophy) that constitute the basis and foundation of "Transcendent
Theosophy" are inspired from religious sources and the related discussions are
extracted and elicited from the Qurānic Verses and Hadiths.
