چکیده:
This research aims to identify the potential relationship between desired (motivations) satisfaction and achieved satisfaction from watching television series among female audiences. This research was conducted using a survey method, and data was collected through a questionnaire accompanied by interviews. The respondents of the research are 383 married women aged 20-54 residing in the city of Isfahan. The research results indicate that the strongest motivation for women to watch television series is to gain personal identity, while satisfaction resulting from establishing social interaction accounts for the strongest level of satisfaction gained from viewing. It appears that women tend to strengthen cultural and religious values, acquire values approved by society, identify and promote their position in social and family arenas, and discover realities (criteria for gaining personal identity) through watching series. Although the strongest motivation for women to watch series is to gain personal identity, they have little satisfaction in this regard. Therefore, it can be concluded that television series are more entertaining and a tool for establishing social interaction with others for women than being informative and identity-building.

The results of the study indicate that the strongest motivation for women to watch television series is to gain personal identity, while the satisfaction derived from establishing social interaction is the strongest level of satisfaction gained from viewing.
While a significant volume of foreign research (Compsey, 1980; Rubin, 1985; Babrow, 1987; Woods, 1998){o24o} has independently studied the motivations for watching series and referred to factors such as entertainment, recreation, habit, comfort and convenience, social benefit, relaxation or escape from problems, escape from fatigue, discovering reality or gaining awareness, guidance, escape from painful realities, filling or wasting time, social interaction, and arousal.
Richard Kilborn{o25o} also, by applying the uses and gratification theory, presented the following general reasons for watching series: Series are part of family life and are considered a kind of entertaining reward; they are a starting point for personal and social interaction; they complete individual needs (a way to be alone or tolerate forced loneliness); they are used for identity formation and identification with characters; they are watched to escape reality through fantasy; they focus on important and specific topics, and finally they are a kind of critical game that informs people about the rules and conventions of a particular genre (Chandler{o26o}, 1994).
In light of the above, this research seeks to specifically study the level of desired and achieved satisfaction of women from watching television series and the relationship between these two concepts.
