چکیده:
Motor, sensory and lymphatic limb disorders in the upper limb and decreased self-image are among the problems after mastectomy surgery. The effect of rehabilitation programs on these problems is contradictory. Therefore, this research was conducted to determine the effect of three training methods of yoga, Pilates and common active on the range of motion, upper limb and body self-image of women following mastectomy surgery. In a quasi-experimental study, 38 women (aged 28-45 years and with an average weight of 66 ± 22.08 kg) with breast cancer were randomly assigned to three groups of yoga, Pilates and common active. The yoga group performed 15 yoga exercise sessions including five yoga asana movements for two weeks during hospitalization, and the Pilates group performed mat Pilates exercises and the common active group performed five upper limb movements during the same period. Range of motion, circumference and body self-image were measured before and after activity and analyzed using one-way ANOVA and correlated t-test at a significance level of 0.05. After yoga and Pilates exercises, the amount of shoulder flexion, extension, internal and external rotation, elbow flexion and extension, wrist ulnar and radial deviation, and body self-image increased significantly, and arm and forearm circumference decreased significantly. While flexion, extension, internal and external rotation of the shoulder, elbow flexion and extension, and wrist flexion and body self-image increased significantly in the common active group. The results showed that yoga and Pilates exercises were more effective in reducing the side effects of mastectomy, including increasing the range of motion of the upper limb and body self-image and reducing edema. Therefore, it is suggested that these exercises be used as an effective method in the rehabilitation of patients after mastectomy surgery.

Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the effect of three exercise methods – yoga, Pilates, and conventional exercise – on range of motion, upper limb, and body self-image in women following mastectomy surgery.
The results showed that yoga and Pilates exercises were more effective in reducing the side effects of mastectomy, including increasing the range of motion of the upper limb and body self-image, and reducing edema.
For example, Keays (2008) reported that Pilates exercises following breast cancer surgery showed a significant increase in the improvement of upper limb function on the affected side of patients, while the range of motion of shoulder flexion, abduction, internal and external rotation significantly increased (10).
The present study aimed to investigate the effect of three training methods – yoga, Pilates, and active range of motion – on the range of motion, upper limb edema, and body self-image of patients with breast cancer after radical mastectomy surgery (considering that all surgical complications are clearly defined in patients undergoing radical mastectomy and the patients are virgin and new).
ANOVA results of Bonferroni post-hoc test of range of motion and circumference in three groups of participants (Refer to the page image) Discussion and Conclusion The aim of this study was to compare the effect of three training methods, yoga and Pilates, on range of motion, upper limb lymphedema, and body self-image in women with breast cancer after mastectomy surgery.
