The type of physical activity performed has a significant impact on the amount of oxidative damage and the body's defensive response. Regular physical activity can act as a vaccine and positively regulate the body's antioxidant systems. In this study, 40 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into two training and control groups. For the training group, eight weeks of endurance training at an intensity of 60-75% of maximum oxygen consumption and 5 days per week was considered. After eight weeks, both the training and control groups were divided into two subgroups, one of which performed a single bout of exercise to exhaustion. The activity of the antioxidant enzyme catalase (CAT) in red blood cells, the level of malondialdehyde (MDA), and the total antioxidant capacity of the serum were measured. The obtained data were analyzed using ANOVA and LSD post-hoc test with a significance level of 0.05. The research findings showed that MDA levels only increased significantly in the exhausted exercise training group (P = 0.007). Catalase activity showed a significant increase in the endurance training group (P = 0.001). There was a significant difference in the total antioxidant capacity between the endurance training + one session of exhaustive exercise group and the control + one session of exhaustive exercise group (P = 0.04). It can be concluded that exhaustive exercise increases oxidative damage, but endurance training has been able to reduce the harmful effects resulting from exhaustive exercise and sudden stress.

Research has shown that endurance training prevents the emergence of some signs of free radical production, and conversely, damage caused by free radicals improves the antioxidant defense of tissues by increasing the activity of antioxidants such as glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, and catalase (5), although not all research supports this, and the response of different tissues can vary.
Previous research on the effect of endurance training and a single exhaustive exercise session has shown different results, such that some studies have cited increased activity of the antioxidant enzyme catalase and improvement in the antioxidant system following regular endurance activity (11), and have also shown that endurance training can reduce the adverse effects of intense exercise (12), while others have stated its lack of effect in preventing oxidative damage (13, 2).
1. Total antioxidant capacity The results of the present study can answer the question of whether a period of endurance training can cover the harmful effects of a single exhaustive exercise session or not?
Although the results of research are sometimes contradictory, most studies have shown that a session of exhaustive exercise or intense sports activity causes lipid peroxidation in various tissues.
Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances As observed in this research and many other studies, acute and exhaustive exercise causes oxidative damage, but endurance training can have a protective effect against this damage by strengthening the antioxidant system and activating antioxidant systems.
