چکیده:
Although communication problems are the main defect resulting from hearing loss, other physical problems may also be associated with hearing loss. The aim of this study was to investigate the upper limb performance in hard of hearing individuals compared to their normal-hearing male and female peers using the YBT UQ. The statistical sample of this study consisted of 80 students, including 40 congenital severely to profoundly hard of hearing boys and girls (age 18.10 ± 7.72 and 17.95 ± 5.62 years) and 40 normal-hearing boys and girls (age 17.55 ± 0.60 and 17.60 ± 0.56 years) who were purposefully non-randomly selected from schools for the deaf and normal schools in Gilan province as subjects. Individual information, height, weight, and medical history were collected using student medical records. YBT-UQ was used to evaluate upper limb performance in a closed kinetic chain in three directions: medial, inferior-lateral, and superior-lateral. One-way ANOVA was used to compare the performance of groups and directions, and paired t-test was used to compare dominant and non-dominant limbs. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the performance of the dominant and non-dominant upper limbs in either group (P ≤ 0.05). Comparing the four groups showed that there was a significant difference between all groups, in which the normal-hearing boys, hard of hearing boys, normal-hearing girls, and hard of hearing girls had better performance, respectively (P > 0.05), and the only difference between the normal-hearing girls and hard of hearing girls was not statistically significant (P ≤ 0.05). According to the results of this study, there is no difference in performing this test between the dominant and non-dominant upper limbs, therefore this test can be used to evaluate and diagnose the injured limb. Also, considering the defect in dynamic balance performance of hard of hearing individuals and the effect of gender on the occurrence of this disorder and the importance of upper limbs in performing daily activities, designing and implementing programs to improve performance in them seems necessary.

Researchers state that YBT-UQ is the first 5 valid test for assessing the dynamic performance of unilateral upper limb in a closed kinetic chain, where stability and movement 6 are engaged at their highest level in the upper limb.
Gorman & et al Westrik (2012), in addition to determining the validity of the test, investigated the relationship between YBT-UQ and specific components of closed kinetic chain tests (trunk rotation, core stability, and upper limb performance) on 6 women and 24 men in the age range of 8 to 19 years (29).
Results and Findings of the Research Table 2 shows the mean percentage and standard deviation of YBT-UQ reach scores in all three directions, the mean combination of all three directions, and the results of the Pearson correlation test for comparing the performance of the dominant and non-dominant upper limbs for each group.
