چکیده:
The purpose of this study is to compare the amount of thoracic kyphosis, scapular positioning, and strength of retractor and protractor muscles of the scapula in national level freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers with non-athletes. To this end, 63 individuals including 21 freestyle wrestlers, 21 Greco-Roman wrestlers, and 21 non-athlete individuals (mean age of 24 ± 1.8 years, height of 173 cm ± 7.7 cm, and weight of 77 kg ± 16.93 kg) were selected. A flexible ruler (validity of 0.91 compared to radiography) was used to measure the amount of thoracic kyphosis. A tape measure (using the Kepler method and in a standing position) was used to determine the distance between the scapulae, and Technogym devices (through determining 1RM and in a seated position) were used to assess muscle strength. In order to compare kyphosis and scapular positioning among the three groups, one-way ANOVA was used, and an independent t-test was used to compare the strength of retractor and protractor muscles between the two groups of freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers. The results of the present study showed that the amount of thoracic kyphosis (43.53 degrees) and the distance between the scapulae (21.98 cm) were significantly higher in freestyle wrestlers than in Greco-Roman wrestlers (kyphosis 36.38 degrees, scapular distance 18.21 cm) and non-athletes (kyphosis 37.44 degrees, scapular distance 18.90 cm) (P > 0.05). Also, the strength of the scapular retractor muscles (111.21 kg) was significantly higher in Greco-Roman wrestlers than in freestyle wrestlers (92.64 kg) (P > 0.05). The results of the present study showed that freestyle wrestling, due to the type of training and common activities in it, can affect the posture of athletes in this field and cause an increase in the amount of thoracic kyphosis and, consequently, an increase in the distance between the scapulae and a decrease in the strength of the retractor muscles in freestyle wrestlers. Therefore, it is recommended that coaches and medical staff of teams monitor freestyle wrestlers for abnormal increases in thoracic kyphosis and, if this abnormality is observed, take necessary measures to correct or prevent its progression.

PhD Student, University of Tehran Abstract {IBThe purpose of this study was to compare the amount of thoracic kyphosis, scapular positioning, and strength of scapular retractor and protractor muscles in national level freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers with non-athletes.
To compare thoracic kyphosis and scapular positioning among the three groups, one-way ANOVA was used, and an independent t-test was used to compare the strength of retractor and protractor muscles between the two groups of freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers.
Considering these points, the researchers in this study have tried to compare the amount of thoracic kyphosis, the distance between the scapulae, and the strength of the retractor and protractor muscles of the scapula (which play an important role in how the scapula is positioned on the chest) among national-level freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers (sent to the Beijing Olympics) and non-athletes.
To investigate the existence of a difference between thoracic kyphosis and scapular positioning among the three groups, a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's post-hoc test were used, and to compare the strength of protractor and retractor muscles of the scapula between the two groups of freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers, an independent t-test was used.
Since the results of the present study showed that the amount of thoracic kyphosis in freestyle wrestlers was significantly higher than in Greco-Roman wrestlers and non-athletes (P < 0.
