چکیده:
one of the basic and frequently recurring sociological concepts in the scope of contemporary iranian fiction is the generation gap between characters. many writers of persian literature have used this issue in their works to depict the conflicts and differences between individuals in society and have mentioned the reasons and consequences of this category. in the present study, the aim is to examine three fictional works of the 90s (mona lisa's sorrow, samar, and qeidar) based on the category of generation gap and distinction by anthony giddens, and to answer the question: how and in what form is the generation gap reflected in the aforementioned stories? the results of the research show that these stories are written with the aim of showing the differences and conflicts between family members and society, as conflicts resulting from generational conflicts and sometimes generational disconnection. also, the generational gap in these works is shown in the form of concepts such as: "family differences", "conflicts leading to generational disconnection between family members in two adult and young generations" and "conflict in the values and norms of people of two generations in society". in addition, the presence of women in the course of these social changes is important, as they have played a role in the form of believers in tradition and modernity.

With the trend of contemporary fictional literature towards social issues, today we deal with novels and stories whose content is partly related to the issue of family differences (father, mother, and children) or the conflict of an individual with the norms of other members of society.
By examining some fictional works of a decade, including "Mona Lisa's Sorrow, Samar, and Qeydar," we find that elements such as: family differences, and the conflict in beliefs and values within the family and society, are considered frequent and important elements in reflecting generational conflict and distinction in their stories.
Fallah in the novel "Samar," by highlighting two female characters from two different generations, attempts to show the confrontation of existing values in society from the perspective of these two women who have almost similar 68/ Journal of Comparative Literature, Ninth Period, Issue 33, Autumn 2025, have (infertility) to display.
The necessity of this research also stems from the fact that in the fictional works of a decade (1390-1400), by examining the issue of the generational gap in characters and sociological approaches, one can reach the intellectual foundations of the authors of this decade regarding the reflection of the problems of Iranian society and Iranian families.
