چکیده:
In this paper، we examine relation between accounting losses and accounting conservatism over a 7- period in 48 loss firms in Tehran Stock Exchange. We report evidence that accounting conservatism and firm size have a positive relation and financial leverage has a negative relation with accounting losses. there is no relation between accounting losses and governmental ownership in study sample. Our findings contribute to the literature on accounting conservatism and they implicate that conservatism is likely to be an efficient financial reporting mechanism to increase firm value in a long term period because it restrict opportunistic payment to managers and other contracting parties. The increased firm value is shared among all parties to the firm increasing everyone’s welfare. In that sense، conservatism is an efficient contracting mechanism.

Master of Accounting - Islamic Azad University, Tehran Central Branch, Iran (Received: 02/05/8831, Approved: 42/08/8831) Abstract This research examines the effect of accounting conservatism, government ownership, company size, and leverage ratio on company losses in 84 loss-making companies delisted from the Tehran Stock Exchange for a 7-year period of 2008-2015.
Domestic Research Bani Mahd (1981) based on information from an eleven-year period (1991-2001) of companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange, determined the factors affecting accounting conservatism and proposed a model to measure it.
However, the independent variables whose effect on net loss is investigated as the dependent variable include: conservatism index, company size, sales to total assets ratio, percentage of government ownership, and leverage ratio.
To control the factor of inflation on accruals and changes in conservatism, and also to homogenize information at the company level with different sizes and also to reduce the heterogeneity of variance in the model residue (the remainder term), the research variables are divided by total assets11.
Hypothesis testing Hypothesis testing was performed using SPSS software and the stepwise analysis method, and it was found that accounting conservatism, company size, and leverage ratio have a significant relationship with the loss-making of companies and affect them.
The relationship between accounting conservatism, leverage ratio, and company size with net loss was confirmed in the hypothesis test.
