چکیده:
According to researchers, in the last one or two decades, with the expansion of mass media and the increasing familiarity of young people with the manifestations of modern life, the effects of modernity have appeared most prominently in the institution of the family. This article seeks to understand what impact the collision of tradition and modernity has on society and its most important institution, namely the family, and how these effects are represented in Iranian family films. For this purpose, Reza Mirkarimi's film 'As Simple As That' (2007) was selected as a case study. The analysis was performed based on Laclau and Mouffe's discourse theory and using the method of discourse semiotics, and also with reference to theoretical studies. The result obtained was that first, in Iranian family films, family conflicts and differences in the viewpoints of family members are represented in the form of a confrontation between the discourses of tradition and modernity. Second, by studying cinematic films as cultural products of society, it is possible to gain a better understanding of social concerns, including the challenges of the Iranian family.
