The current article tries to study the distinctive aspects of religious leadership in Islamic revolution of Iran and Egyptian Islamic awakening through the study of the different social support of Islamic revolution of Iran’s leader based on foundations of Islamic political thought. The author believes that the difference in the bases of religious beliefs has created different roles for the leadership in Islamic revolution of Iran. While during the Islamic revolution of Iran the leader guided the revolution as its ideologue, in Islamic awakening of Egypt, religious leadership entered the arena subsequent to the actual uprising which is the prime reason to slow down its victory process and turning the uprising into a revolution

According to many domestic and foreign experts, in the Islamic Revolution of Iran, leadership played a major role in all stages of the victory and the fruition of the revolution; whereas in these movements resulting from the Islamic awakening, leadership was not the responsibility of a specific individual, and religious leaders emerged onto the scene after the occurrence of the movement and the overthrow of the Egyptian dictator.
In the Shiite view, the Marja' is also considered the General Deputy of the Infallible Imam ×, and following him is a religious duty; however, the reasoning of Imam Khomeini + regarding the position of Marja'iyyah and jurisprudence in the matter of government and Wilayah is one of the important and noteworthy subjects in the discussion of the leadership of the Islamic Revolution.
Therefore, the leadership of the Islamic Revolution of Iran is combined with a religious subject and, moreover, as mentioned, the Shiite view of political sovereignty is also derived from these same religious foundations and is considered part of the principles of religion, which adds to the importance of this subject.
To answer these questions, it is necessary to briefly present the discussion of sovereignty in Sunni political thought and then address the performance of religious leadership in the Islamic Awakening movement in Egypt.
Conclusion In this article, the role and position of leadership in the occurrence of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the Islamic Awakening movement in Egypt were examined, taking into account the religious foundations and political thoughts in Islam.
