چکیده:
The re-identification of historians and the revival of their historical texts is one of the essential research necessities; the later this action is taken, the more calamities it entails. In this regard, ancient historical writings possess a special importance and value that has not yet been properly addressed. In addition to the mentioned importance, knowing Ibn al-A'tham is necessary from two perspectives: on one hand, due to the antiquity of the book Al-Futuh, and on the other, due to the criticisms leveled against him. This inconsistency and fluctuation have made the path of studying and examining his character unbalanced. In this writing, while referring to the biography of Ibn al-A'tham and examining his religion, political and cultural situation, and his era, his historiography method and school in the book Al-Futuh—despite the fact that the documents of some historical reports are problematic—possess unique characteristics. In any case, the critique and review of ancient texts of Islamic history is a starting point for providing a correct image of what occurred in the early days of Islam.

Quarterly Journal of History Department at Imam Khomeini Specialized University Vol. 4,No. 10,winter,2011 Recognizing Ibn A'tham al-Kufi and His Book Al-Futuh 1 Amir Hossein Erfan* Abstract Recognizing historians and reviving their historical texts is one of the research necessities that, if addressed later, will bring more calamities.
In this writing, while referring to the biography of Ibn A'tham and examining his religion, political and cultural situation, and his era, his historiography school in the book Al-Futuh, although some historical reports contain problematic documents, also possesses unique characteristics.
Al-Futuh is one of the historical products of the early centuries of the field of historiography; unfortunately, because Ibn A'tham is one of the early historians of Islam, his life has been addressed in less than one page, which, regrettably, must be said: that same small volume—which itself carries a kind of complaint—has fallen victim to confusion and illegibility and has not yielded an outcome that would be the result of research and investigation.
Ibn A'tham's extensive attention to the event of Ashura and the vast volume of Karbala events in his work prompted Nematullah Safari Forushani and Muhammad Ali Tohidi to engage in the critique and evaluation of the book Al-Futuh with an approach toward the incident of Karbala.
Ibn A'tham mentions him in two places: one at the beginning of Uthman's caliphate and the other in the news of the Battle of Siffin; see: al-Futuh, vol.
