Ithbat al-Wasiyya and Mas'udi, the Author of Muruj al-Dhahab Sayyid Muhammad Jawad Shobayri Zanjani Introduction While writing the article on Nu'mani and the book of al-Ghayba, the author encountered the discussion of Nu'mani's sheikhs, specifically the name ((Ali bin Husayn Mas'udi)).
(2) This biographical account, considering the mention of the treatise Ithbat al-Wasiyya li Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) - which apparently is the same extant book Ithbat al-Wasiyya - indicates that Mas'udi was an Imami.
(7) Allamah al-Hilli (648 - 726) and Ibn Dawud al-Hilli (647 - alive in 707), by mentioning the book Ithbat al-Wasiyya li Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), identify him in the biography of Ali bin Husayn Mas'udi as the author of the book Muruj al-Dhahab.
The writer of these lines heard this point for the first time from Ayatollah Valad, may his shadow endure, and has observed in some of his commentaries on al-Ghayba by al-Nu'mani that there are two individuals named Ali bin Husayn Mas'udi: one is the author of Muruj al-Dhahab, who is certainly not the author of Ithbat al-Wasiyya, and the other is the teacher of al-Nu'mani.
Doubt or denial of the attribution of Ithbat al-Wasiyya to Mas'udi is also seen in independent works written about the author of Muruj al-Dhahab, such as Al-Mas'udi by Jawad Ali,(18) Manhaj al-Mas'udi fi Bahth al-Aqa'id wa al-Firaq al-Diniyya by Hadi Husayn Hammoud, and Manhaj al-Mas'udi fi Kitabat al-Tarikh by Sulayman bin Abdullah al-Mudaydas al-Suwaykat.
