چکیده:
Surah Al-Qasas, by consensus of commentators, was revealed continuously during the middle years of the Prophet's presence in Mecca; however, some, relying on the reasons for revelation (asbab al-nuzul) and interpretive traditions, have dated verse 85 of this Surah to the threshold of the Hijra, a time when the Prophet was in Al-Juhfah (a land between Mecca and Medina) longing for Mecca, according to which God promised the Prophet his return to Mecca. This is despite the fact that the traditions regarding the reasons for revelation have only been reported as 'mawquf' (attributed to companions) in later sources and are in conflict with a multitude of interpretive traditions under this verse. On the contrary, clues such as the extension of verse 85—which serves as a final argument against the polytheists—the continuous context of this verse with its neighboring verses, which were revealed to emphasize the occurrence of the Day of Judgment, and numerous interpretive traditions that interpret the meaning of the phrase 'la-raddun ka ilay ma'ad' as the return to the abode of the hereafter (Paradise), make the Meccan dating of this verse in the middle years of the mission and, consequently, its continuous revelation along with other verses of Surah Al-Qasas, provable.

Critique and Review of Interpretive Traditions in the Field of Dating Verse 85 of Surah Al-Qasas Date Received: 2/6/1397 Date Accepted: 5/7/1397 Mohammad Ali Mahdavi Rad 1 Amir Ahmad Nezhad 2 Zahra Kalbasi 3 Abstract Surah Al-Qasas, by consensus of commentators, was revealed continuously during the middle years of the Prophet's (peace be upon him and his family) presence in Mecca; however, some, relying on the reasons for revelation (asbab al-nuzul) and interpretive traditions, have dated verse 85 of this Surah to the threshold of the Hijra, a time when the Prophet was in Al-Juhfah (a land between Mecca and Medina) longing for Mecca, according to which God promised the Prophet a return to Mecca.
On the other hand, clues such as the extension of verse 85 - which serves as a final argument against the polytheists - the continuous context of this verse with its neighboring verses, which were revealed to emphasize the occurrence of the Day of Judgment, and numerous interpretive traditions that interpret the meaning of the phrase "لَرادُّ کَ اِلی مَعادٍ" as a return to the abode of the hereafter (Paradise), make the Meccan dating of this verse in the middle years of the mission and, consequently, its continuous revelation along with other verses of Surah Al-Qasas, provable.
