چکیده:
Intellect, in the extent of its domain, has various divisions and is divisible from different angles. One of these divisions is its division based on epistemology and the type of its activity. According to this consideration, intellect is divided into theoretical intellect and practical intellect. Various views have emerged regarding whether theoretical and practical intellect are a single force that has taken two names or two separate forces; if they are two forces, how do they function? In this writing, the aforementioned views have been explained, clarified, criticized, and reviewed, and finally, two forces have been proven: one is solely responsible for theory and knowledge, while the other is responsible for both the perception of universals and the inference of particulars related to action, as well as compelling the performance of work based on the aforementioned perception.

The first issue that can be raised regarding this theory is whether, based on this view, a human possesses two forces named theoretical intellect and practical intellect, or only one force, but its perceptions differ from one another?
Secondly, by examining the words of many proponents of this theory, it can be concluded that according to this theory, the practical intellect is a force with the following characteristics: a) It makes decisions based on perception (Javadi Amoli, 1393: 1/153-154); b) Faith, love (Ibid.
Avicenna has presented this view in various of his books; including in Al-Isharat wa al-Tanbihat (1375: 2/352) and Al-Nafs from the Book of Healing (1375: 284) 1 , and Mulla Sadra is among those who have accepted its principle (Sadr al-Din Shirazi, 1354: 260) but differs from Avicenna in its quality and some of its details; including the fact that Avicenna considers the two forces referred to as the theoretical and practical intellects to be outside the essence of the soul: ولیس ولا واحد منها هو النفس الإنسانیّة، بل النفس هو الشیء الذی له هذه القوی ( النفس من کتاب الشفاء، 1375: 286).
Explanation and Clarification of the Third View In explaining and clarifying this theory, we point to the following matters: a) Based on this theory, the theoretical intellect infers universal judgments through their appropriate premises, but the practical intellect possesses the following characteristics: 1.
Based on this view, the theoretical intellect and the practical intellect in humans are similar to the perceiving and moving faculties in animals (Ibid.
