Acts of diversion and play have existed in human life from ancient times until now; these acts are negative matters, and according to Islamic jurisprudence, a believer never spends their life in vanity. In the past, due to the lack of progress in societies and modern communication technologies, these acts manifested in forms such as gambling, alcoholic beverages, dancing, drugs, etc., but today, with the expansion of the internet and the virtual world, they have evolved in a different way. This article aims to use a descriptive-analytical method to explain diversion and play and its types in cyberspace, while stating its punishment in Iranian law, and seeks to answer the question: To what extent have diversion and play changed from the past to the present, and what are the upcoming challenges in this field? The findings in this article show that along with the development of technology, the types of diversion and play and the increased focus of individuals on these acts compared to the past have increased; furthermore, this issue has caused disturbances in the educational field and an accumulation of judicial cases.
