چکیده:
Since the time Iranians encountered the West and realized their own decadence, the question of 'who we are' became the main concern of Iranian intellectuals. Following this, questions such as 'Who are we?' and 'How should we be?' were raised. To answer these questions, Shariati, as an Iranian thinker with Islamic concerns, attempts to formulate a solution for liberation from decadence and moving towards progress. In his view, capitalism, imperialism, deviant religions, and dogmatism are the main factors in the decadence of Iran and the Islamic world, and only through returning to oneself and the formation of an Islamic Renaissance can progress and perfection be achieved. In this regard, the main goal of this article is an analysis of the concept of the Islamic Renaissance and liberation from decadence in the views of Shariati.

His considered ideology first liberates Muslims from confusion, self-defeat, and the feeling of inferiority in the face of Western civilization; second, it saves them from being mere consumers; third, it brings them political and social freedom; fourth, it grants them authenticity and defines the meaning and purpose of their life; and fifth, through it, the religious knowledge and the existing decadent Islam can be be criticized and the ground for liberation from decadence can be provided, and likewise, the masses can be mobilized for social and political transformation and the realization of a new and fresh society.
It is based on these beliefs that he engages in the ideologization of religion and believes that the most important work he has accomplished during his lifetime is this transformation of "Islam from the form of a 'culture' into an 'ideology' and from 'inherited dogmatic traditions' into 'responsible elective self-awareness' in the conscience of the people [is]" (Ibid.
