چکیده:
Civil and democratic political culture is one of the most important factors influencing the formation and continuity of democracy. In this research, the impact of social capital and its important elements (trust, cooperative tendencies, and previous membership and cooperation in voluntary social associations) on political culture at two levels—systemic (political attitudes and beliefs) and procedural (the amount and type of political and social participation)—was studied using a survey method and a questionnaire technique. In this study, the statistical population consisted of students at Shiraz University with a sample size of 373 people. The most important findings of this research are: 1. Based on the results of the stepwise multivariate regression test, social capital and its mentioned important components were shown to be influential at a 50 percent level on students' inclination toward civil and democratic culture (attitudes and participatory behavior). 2. In the bivariate test with Pearson correlation statistics, the sub-hypotheses of the main hypothesis, including the significant relationship and impact of trust, cooperative tendencies, and previous membership in voluntary associations on political culture with the two mentioned important components, were confirmed. 3. The research hypotheses related to control variables such as religion, field and group of study, and educational level were not confirmed. Overall, the general finding of the research indicates that students who have a higher level and amount of social capital are significantly more inclined toward a civil and democratic political culture and distance themselves from traditional political culture.

Today, in the literature of political development and transition to democracy, especially the literature related to new social movements, universities and students are mentioned as the beating heart and pioneers of political-social transformations; such that in the Islamic Revolution of Iran or in the recent developments in the Middle East, this group played a very noteworthy role; therefore, for this important reason and other reasons, in this study, the political culture and the type of political beliefs, attitudes, and participatory behavior of students, influenced by their level of social capital with components such as trust, social networks, interactions, and cooperation in voluntary social associations, have been studied.
