The Concept of Iranshahr in the Ilkhanid Era: The Role of Iranian Ministers and Officials 1 Fatemeh Sadat Hosseini Tabar PhD student in History and Civilization of Islamic Nations, Science and Research Branch, Islamic Azad University, Tehran, Iran.
Great Iranian ministers such as Khwaja Rashid al-Din Fazlullah and Atamalek Juvayni played an important role in preserving the elements of the concept of Iranshahr through the authorship of historical works, continuous activity in the development and prosperity of Iran, and efforts to protect this land from the harm of enemies.
The third category includes research related to the bureaucracy of the Ilkhanid era that is useful for this study, such as: the book "The Rules of Governance in the Ministry of Rashid al-Din Fazlullah Hamadani" written by Hashem Rajabzadeh; the book "History of the Mongols and the Ilkhanid Government in Iran" by Shirin Bayani; and the article "The Juvayni Family in the Ilkhanid Apparatus" by Davoud Esfahanian.
In the works of Rashid al-Din Fazlullah Hamadani, such as 'Jami' al-Tawarikh', which is one of the most important historical works of the Ilkhanid era, attention is paid to the history of Iran and the effort to preserve Iranian identity during the Mongol rule, and Khwaja Rashid's perspective in this work is a synthesis of Iranshahr and Islamic viewpoints.
However, from the time of Rashid al-Din Fadlallah Hamadani, the word "Iran" also specifically and repeatedly entered official and historical texts and gradually replaced terms such as "Ajam" or "Mamalik al-Islam," which in itself is a sign of the strengthening of the Iranian territorial identity in the Ilkhanid era.
