چکیده:
The notion of conflict between the verses of the Holy Quran has been raised since ancient times; the conflict of verses regarding marriage with the People of the Book is among these notions. Based on this, verse 5 of Surah Al-Ma'idah, which indicates the permissibility of marriage between Muslims and the People of the Book, conflicts with verses that emphasize the prohibition of marriage with polytheists and disbelievers. The origin of this conflict lies in considering the People of the Book as polytheists and disbelievers, as well as the lack of attention to the connection between the verses in terms of linguistic significance and the type of relationship between them. The categorization of the aforementioned verses indicates that these verses do not conflict with each other. The emergence of the notion of conflict results from ignoring several factors such as the meaning of 'People of the Book' and the application of the terms 'disbeliever' and 'polytheist' to them, reductionism rather than a systematic approach to the Quran, and lack of attention to the semantic implications of words and the context of the verses. Taking these propositions into account in understanding the verses leaves no room for conflict and shows that the relationship between the related verses is of the type of 'general and specific absolute' (al-amm wa al-khass al-mutlaq), and their customary synthesis indicates the permissibility of marriage with the People of the Book.
خلاصه ماشینی:
Based on this contradiction, verse 5 of Surah Al-Ma'idah indicates the permissibility of marriage with the People of the Book:
According to the claim of contradiction, on one hand, the Holy Quran in verse 5 of Surah Al-Ma'idah issues the permission for marriage with the People of the Book and legislates its ruling, and on the other hand, in verses 221 of Surah Al-Baqarah and 10 of Surah Al-Mumtahanah, it rules the prohibition of marriage with polytheists and disbelievers.
The majority of Sunni and Shia commentators believe that the intended meaning of "وَالْمُحْصَناتُ مِنَ الَّذِینَ أُوتُوا الْکتابَ مِنْ قَبْلِکمْ" is those among the People of the Book who remain upon their Kitabi creed; so much so that it can be stated that there is an interpretive consensus on this issue, and the main differences relate to the attribute of the People of the Book regarding marriage with them, such as being Harbi or Dhimmi, or being free or a slave (Balkhi, 1423, vol.
In conclusion, it must be said that in light of the aforementioned objections, the phrase "وَالْمُحْصَناتُ مِنَ الَّذِینَ أُوتُوا الْکتابَ مِنْ قَبْلِکمْ" is specific to the People of the Book, and the holy verse clearly intends to state the ruling on the permissibility of marriage with them.
