چکیده:
In desert regions, natural factors such as the scarcity of water resources, including permanent rivers, natural and underground springs, and high ambient temperatures, have caused residents of these areas to not only value this vital element but also employ systems for better water utilization. To this end, numerous ab-anbars (water cisterns) have been built in the Sarayan region located in South Khorasan province. Many of these structures were constructed as waqf (endowments) by individuals. The themes of their waqf-namas (endowment deeds), which often appear as inscriptions, in addition to introducing the founders of the buildings, have also been able to some extent express the political, social, and cultural issues of that period. This research attempts, through the study and examination of the waqf-namas of the ab-anbars and howz-anbars of the Sarayan region, to address the quality and manner of the waqf tradition in the culture of these areas from the Safavid period to the late era. This research has been conducted with a fundamental goal and using a historical-analytical method. Additionally, the data collection method is field-based and library-based. The results of the studies show that in the Sarayan region, the tradition of waqf was not specific to a particular time, and this tradition has been flowing as a process in the life and culture of the people.

At the beginning of the portal entrance, there is a rectangular stone inscription made of gray marble, the method of which is incised in Nastaliq script.
Subject of the inscription: By referring to the attribute of the immortality of God, the reading of a Fatiha by the people for the builder of the building, the history of the building construction in the year 1232, and its builder is an individual named Mohammad Ali Bey, son of Asghar Ali Bey. Kamalan Ab-anbar This monument is located within the city of Aysk, in the alley of Shahid Ismail School.
The endowment deeds (waqfnamas) of these ab-anbars were written as inscriptions on marble stones and were usually installed at the entrance portal of the building.
