چکیده:
Maqātil al-Tālibīyyīn by Abul Faraj Isfahānī (356 AH), is one of the oldest and most prominent books of Maqātil. This article examines the historiography of Abul Faraj Isfahānī, especially where he dealt with Ahl al-Bayt (PBUH), tries to clarify some aspects of his historiography by evaluating and criticizing Abul Faraj's reports. Maqātil al-Tālibīyyīn is a source mostly relied on written sources and sometimes using oral sources. Abul Faraj compares and evaluates the narrations in order to measure their accuracy/inaccuracy and sometimes expresses her opinion, therefore, streaks of compound and analytical historiography can be seen in his work. Abul Faraj's tendency towards a group of Talibites has given a biased color to his historiography and has had an effect on the writing of the Maqātils. Despite this, his narrations were admired by the later scholars, especially the Imami Shia historians, and they found great value and credibility in the historiography of Ahl al-Bayt.

3 In this article, while analyzing the structure and content of Maqatil al-Talibiyyin, his Maqtal-writing has been critiqued and evaluated based on Abu al-Faraj's narrations regarding the Ahl al-Bayt (AS).
Parviz Adel, in the article "Abu al-Faraj al-Isfahani and the Translation of Maqatil al-Talibiyyin",5 discusses the characteristics of the book, the translation by Sayyid Hashim Rasuli Mahallati, and the importance of studying it to understand the state of society during the era of the Umayyad and 6 Abbasid caliphs.
Mohammad Reza Hedayatpanah, in "Shiite Historical Sources up to the Fifth Century", focuses on introducing Maqatil al-Talibiyyin and Abu al-Faraj's sources in compiling this book.
In all the reports he has provided regarding the martyrdom or the imprisonment and torture of the Talibians, Abu al-Faraj attempts to present the cause of this issue as well; although he has erred in some cases, what is important is that in Maqatil al-Talibiyyin, he has addressed the reasoning and analysis of the grudge and enmity between the Talibians and the Umayyads and the Abbasids from his own perspective.
Many of the narrations included in al-Irshad are mursal (disconnected), and the Sheikh has not made any reference to their source; however, the cross-examination and comparison of the texts of these two books reveal Sheikh Mufid's utilization of Abu al-Faraj al-Isfahani's Maqatil al-Talibiyyin in the writing and compilation of al-Irshad.
Conclusion The examination of Maqatil al-Talibiyyin reveals that the mention of chains of narration (isnad), genealogies, martyrdom accounts (maqtal), elegies, and the biographies of caliphs are among the characteristics of Abu al-Faraj's historiography in this work.
