Critique and Examination of Don Cupitt's Anti-Realist Faith Through the Investigation of the Foundations of Modern Philosophy Ghorban Gelmi * | Somayeh Zarei ** Abstract The main issue of this writing is the investigation of the religious-study dimensions of Don Cupitt's anti-realist perspective _ in Persian and English _ through the investigation of his view regarding God, religion, mysticism, and an analytical discovery of the philosophical roots of anti-realism and a critique of them.
The present research, while precisely examining the various dimensions of Don Cupitt's anti-realism from a religious studies perspective, proceeds to explain and investigate this viewpoint and, through this explanation, analyzes and critiques its philosophical foundations by emphasizing the historical turning point of realism and anti-realism in Don Cupitt's view, with an emphasis on the foundations of modern philosophy; a perspective that may be effective in understanding the roots of skepticism in the modern era and, from a new perspective, analyze the realistic search surrounded by the skepticism of today's humanity.
To critique Don Cupitt's unrealistic faith, his mode of thought must be scrutinized; in fact, Don Cupitt holds an anti-realist view regarding faith because his philosophical outlook is based on the principles of modern philosophy, and therefore this writing, by committing to a type of fundamental and negative critique, will critique the philosophical foundations of modernity and, in generalizing this critique, while explaining the relationship and connection between the ideas of Don Cupitt's religious approach and the philosophical foundations of modernity, the roots of his religious anti-realism will also be subject to theoretical critique; although its true critique occurs in light of the rupture of the modern epistemological foundation, which this rupture is not possible through mere theoretical and abstract critique and requires an existential transformation in humans and finding a new relationship with truth, and necessitates an existential critique.
