Doria Shafik is an active woman in the Egyptian women's movement who began a passionate struggle for women's political freedom in the 1950s and 1960s. Although Shafik cannot be introduced as the founder of the Egyptian women's movement, she should be considered the most influential figure in it. She was able to launch a serious and effective challenge within the Egyptian women's movement and pursued the struggle for women's political rights until achieving real and objective results. Doria Shafik's greatest achievement was transforming the issue of women's political rights into one of the government's daily concerns. The only critique of Doria Shafik's book, meaning Al-Mar'a al-Misriyya, not only helps us recognize the ideology and political practice of its author but also depicts the prevailing norms of Egyptian society at the time of this text's production and the historical current of the Egyptian women's movement, so that we may gain awareness of them.
