In this writing, after stating the necessity, essence, and primary source of action, we attempt to analyze the issue of action and the abandonment of action in Masnavi and Gita by referring to an intertextual approach. This article consists of three sections. In the first section, while providing a short introduction by referring to the concept of action and the performance of religious duties based on the two aforementioned books, the necessity of action as a means and cause for reaching the Truth is discussed, and it is stated that the true status of humans in this world is action, not the abandonment of action. In the second section of the article, the essence, primary source, and types of action are discussed, and it is stated that according to the reports of Masnavi and Gita, the actions of humans vary based on different purposes. Some act out of fear, some out of habit, and some out of love and faith. However, the foundation of the truth of action lies in paying attention to the act itself. In the third section, the issue of abandoning action is discussed. In this section, pure inaction is interpreted as the abandonment of mental attachment and non-attachment to the result of the action. Therefore, the abandonment of action in these texts means the abandonment of the mental attachment that arises from action. That is, a stage at which the seeker reaches beyond the valid purposes in this earthly world.
