چکیده:
The book Nuzhat al-Nazir wa Tanbih al-Khatir is among the ancient Shiite narrative works. For a long time, Shiite scholars, while paying attention to the work, have had ambiguity regarding its author. From the perspective of many, the evidence of the author's life is limited only to reports that exist within the content of the work. Even his name has been misspelled in various forms in different versions, and thus, the possibility of relying on those few data points about him has been denied by these scholars. Over several centuries, these scholars have strived to identify the author and analyze the works attributed to him, and over time, they have achieved successes. Based on the evidence included in the text of the work and outside of it, they have tested several hypotheses and have also strived to find new evidence. In this article, an attempt is made to explore the transformation of various understandings of the author of Nuzhat al-Nazir and the causes and reasons for this transformation, and ultimately, through the analysis of the remaining scant evidence, to obtain a better image of his life, thought, and social position, and at the same time, a more precise understanding of an ancient Shiite narrative collection and its author. Recognizing this work and its author is important in that it opens a way toward a better understanding of the cultural and intellectual currents of the Shiite society of Baghdad in the fifth century AH.

Evidence of the Author's Life in Ancient Sources Although in most surviving manuscripts of the book Nuzhat al-Nazir, the author of the work is mentioned by the name Husayn ibn Muhammad ibn Hasan, the title "Halwani" for him is not seen in any of the known copies of this work (see: Amin, n.
In his introduction to the new correction of Nuzhat al-Nazir, by placing together the report of Imad al-Din al-Tabari in Bisharat al-Mustafa, the report of Ibn Najjar in the Dhayl, and the report of Ibn Batriq in Umdah, he identifies the author of Nuzhat al-Nazir as Husayn ibn Muhammad ibn Hasan al-Halwani, who was a student of Abu Ali al-Jafari and, since he lived in the Karakh district of Baghdad, must have also benefited from the presence of scholars such as Sharif al-Radi, Sayyid al-Murtada, and Sheikh al-Tusi.
